Who is Marly Broudie?

Prior to launching SocialEyes Communications in 2015, I worked at a large litigation firm in downtown Toronto. I started my career as a Paralegal and eventually transitioned into a business development and marketing role at the firm. It was in that role, that I honed my skills in social media marketing, content creation, business development, and internet marketing.

I soon realized that every business, every professional, every organization, could benefit from a solid digital marketing strategy. My goal was, and still is, to help businesses broaden opportunities through the power of digital marketing. My vision is bigger than simply helping clients drive growth and exposure– it’s to help entrepreneurs and business owners, just like me, fulfill their wildest potential.

What are some of your biggest achievements throughout your journey?

I would consider the following among my largest achievements:

  1. Growing a team from just myself in 2015 to a team of 7 full-time employees and 8 to 10 part-time team members.

  2. Building an extremely talented, intrinsically motivated, hard-working, responsible team

  3. Hosting my first ever charity gala in support of SickKids Hospital in 2019, bringing together over 200 attendees, and donating nearly 35K to a cause that’s been close to my heart since the passing of my sister in 2011.

  4. Providing my insights in several publications including Social Media ExaminerReal Estate Magazine OnlineLexpert MagazineLawyer’s Daily, and more.

  5. Being a mom to my two children (3-year-old and 2-year-old) and navigating motherhood and entrepreneurship.

I would attribute these achievements to hard work, dedication, resilience, and drive. I also recognize that none of this would be possible without team members who share in my vision, who dare to think big, who are as tenacious as they are talented, who are mission-driven, and who go to the wall for our clients and for our company.

What are 3 business principles that are of core value to you?

Purpose/meaning:

This refers to meaningful conversations, thoughtful collaborations, socially rewarding manifestations, and deliberate and proactive actions

Tailored strategy:

Recognizing that no two businesses and business owners are not the same, I believe in a tailored and customized strategy for each client that we work with. We strive to avoid cookie-cutter solutions and as such, it is important that we get to know our clients, their businesses and tailor an approach that works for them and where they are at in their digital journey.

Profits:

This, in my world, refers to revenue growth and financial gain but it is defined by fair and equitable business practices and incentivized employees that share in the success of the company. It is imperative to recognize and reward the role our employees play in driving profit.

What is the hardest part of being an entrepreneur?

I would say that the hardest and most challenging part of being an entrepreneur is balance. I always want to ensure our team is happy and motivated, our clients see value in the work that we do and are satisfied, and that my family still comes first. Balancing personal and professional is extremely challenging and takes work and attention. I have to remind myself that things take time, processes were not born overnight, and that it is ok to break away and say “I am home now, and it is important to be present with my kids.”

How do you stand out in this digital world?

I take pride in that we are so much more than a social media company. There is a major business development aspect that comes into play with each and every client that we work with. This element is largely a result of David Broudie, my husband, my partner, and SocialEyes’ Executive VP of Business Development.

David’s strategic lens has been central to our success and differentiator. We truly get to know every client’s goals, objectives, strengths, weaknesses, and vision prior to strategizing, so that we can leverage digital marketing tools to help our clients achieve their fullest potential.

Our approach, especially in the face of COVID-19, is a testament to our competitive advantage. As companies weather these storms, we are providing clarity that, for many, could be the difference between surviving and thriving.

I truly believe our strengths in pivoting businesses in the face of unprecedented challenges sets us apart from the status quo.

What was one of the biggest mistakes that you have made throughout your journey and what lesson did you learn from it?

One of the biggest mistakes that I made throughout my journey (and I still struggle with it) is self-doubt. When things get tough or challenging, it is very easy to go from “I can” to “I can’t”. Over the years, I have learned and I continuously work on mindset and mindful thinking. It is so important to stay positive, to look for solutions, to lean on my husband, my team, and my friends, and to find the way. Sounds cliché, but “where there is a will, there is a way” holds strong and true. Self-doubt can be debilitating, but it can also harness growth by driving solutions, ways to solve problems, tactics for improvements, and incentives to keep going

What is your key to success?

The key to my success is continuing to set goals, maintain relationships, motivate team members, and implement a method to the madness

What does success mean to you?

Success is defined by accomplishments and goal setting. It is the goals we set out for ourselves and how we accomplish them. The definition of success can also alter from year to year and day today.

For me, important factors contributing to my success are: happy clients, motivated and talented team members, staying social with friends,  thriving children, and a happy marriage.
